Domestic Sails

Sails are a must have item in Qld and are fast becoming a fashionable addition in the NSW domestic market. The reason they are becoming so popular is due to the adaptability and the individuality of the product.
Prior to meeting with an Australis Manufacturing representative, what are the key areas for the Shade Sail:
* What is the size of the area that you require shaded (not the size of the Shade Sail, the Shaded area)? As your Shade Sail will be suspended in the air usually 2m above the ground, the sun is able to bead in underneath the sail and encroach on the area you want cover. You need to discuss with your Australis Manufacturing representative how best to combat the sun's impact.
* Shade Cloth or Waterproof Vinyl? Most people will say waterproof, however, it is worth considering that with a waterproof sail comes larger posts, larger footings, stronger fixings. A waterproof sail has a much greater windload and waterload capacity and thus greater componetry is required, all this adds up. A shade cloth although not waterproof, if installed correctly will only allow a small amount of water to pass through and is decidely cheaper.
* The direction of the sun? This will determine the positioning of high and low fixing points and trying to maximise shaded area.
* What is the critical time for the Shade? eg. (Summer, late afternoon sun) (Winter, Morning Sun) This is also important to ascertain as the erected Shade Sail can produce the appropriate shade, when requried.
*Do you have any existing structure that you might be able to use as a fixing point? eg. existing patio, overhead deck, roof of the house, eaves/ fascia, existing posts. As Shade and Waterproof Sails hold a certain amount of windload and waterload. Strong, sturdy structures are required as fixing points for the Shade Sail. If possible, using existing structure can significantly reduce the cost of the sail. Your Australis Manufacturing representative will help decide whether it is possible to use any existing structure
