Pool Cover for White Albatross
In November 2011 Australis Manufacturing were honoured to supply and install a pool cover for the magnificent new swimming pool at the White Albatross Resort in Nambucca Heads, NSW.
The pool is required to stay at 28 Degrees Celsius year round. The pool builder Azure Pools , commissioned the use of a pool blanket to assist in not only the heat retention, but the generation of heat into the pool, to meet this requirement. A solar pool blanket can generate anywhere between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, depending on how much sun the surface area of the pool receives. As the White Albatross pool will be in direct sunlight for the majority of the day, the heat generation properties of the pool cover were a major key. Not only that but the pool cover has excellent heat retention properties. the bubbles in the pool blanket not only allow the UV light to pass through them into the pool water, thus increasing the temperature of the water. The air in the bubbles in a pool cover provide a layer of warm air that insulates the body of pool water, thus retaining heat. By insulating the surface area of the pool, the pool cover prevents 97% of evaporation, which not only saves on water, but retains heat. A recent study by Sydney Water estimated that a swimming pool will lose between 70% - 150% of its contents of water through evaporation per year. The major contributing factor to the vast difference in evaporative rates were the onshore breezes of coastal areas. As the White Albatross Holiday Park is right on the beach at Nambucca Heads, this swimming pool will be subject to very high evaporation.
Nestled in between the Pacific Ocean and the Nambucca River, the 4 1/2 star White Albatross Holiday Park couldnt have a better location. Swim, surf, fish, walk along the kilometres of paved walkways that surround the waterways, cafes, parks, licenced club and tavern. Everything needed for a great family vacation is at your fingertips. Plus the facilities are fantastic, many of the vacation cabin accommodations and caravan sites enjoy a dress circle waterfront position with extended views out over the lagoon, ocean or river.
Measuring 22 metres long with widths varying from 6 to 16 metres wide and holding approx 308,000 litres, this new pool is most impressive from every angle. The pool water is kept clean using 2 large commerical pumps and filters and 3 large salt water chlorinators and a liquid chlorine dosing pump. The entire pool's water content is turned over every 2 hours. The pool incorporates a 1.8 metre water slide at one end which has been designed to minimise the risk of collisions between sliders and swimmers while at the other end, sits a glass waterfall with the "White Albatross" logo displayed on it.
Due to the shape and size of the pool , the pool cover was manufactured into 4 pieces. Each pool cover was individually cut and shaped to flush fit this large pool's free form shape. Four fully mobile pool cover rollers were positioned to make the rolling process of the cover as easy as possible. Finally, haul cord ropes have been added to each of the four individual pool covers to further assist with deployment and retrieval.
